Hazard and Operbility Studies (HAZOP)
KASCO has undertaken numerous Hazard and operability studies across a varied range of industries and processes, from upstream production facilities, gas processing plants, oil separation units, to construction projects during design phase and chemical and pharmaceutical processes.
What is a HAZOP?
A hazard and operability study (HAZOP) is a structured and systematic examination of a planned or existing process or operation with the task to identify and evaluate processes that may represent risks to personnel, environment or equipment, or prevent efficient operation; it is carried out by a suitably experienced multi-disciplinary team (HAZOP team) during a set of meetings. The HAZOP technique is qualitative, and aims to stimulate the imagination of participants to identify potential hazards and operability problems; structure and completeness are given by using guide word prompts. The relevant international standard calls for team members to display ‘intuition and good judgement’ and for the meetings to be held in ‘a climate of positive thinking and frank discussion’
How can we support you?
Our experience has been developed and honed, so that we can provide our customers with a HAZOP that is structured with industry experts as the facilitators (Chair Person) who have the inate ability to drive the study and delve sufficiently into the teams experience to identify potential hazards and operability problems.
KASCO work hard to ensure that your HAZOP is cost and time efficient, and we are able to do this with recent innovations in HAZOP techniques, that will assist the HAZOP team to consider all risks, whilst agreeing on an acceptable level of “tolerable” risk.
The development of technologies are also being applied for ‘line-walking’ HAZOP’s that review an existing process against the P&ID’s available for review.
